Description

Overview

Iboard is a unique Arduino board which features a WIZnet ethernet port, an XBee socket, nRF24L01+ module interface and an ATMega328. This board will add wireless XBee / nRF24L01+ control as well as internet connectivity to your projects. It’s great for anything from home automation to robot control. The possibilities are endless!

Iboard can be used as an Ethernet, wireless communication project development platform. Iboard support POE (power on Ethernet) power supply, and Micro SD for mass storage. There are some 3pin electronic brick/ sensor brick interface breakout on board, it offer an easy way for a quick prototyping. You can setup a web server through which you may communicate with a remote Arduino using XBee radios, bluetooth or APC modules. This information can be posted to a web site, or to Twitter.

The board requires FTDI basic board to upload sketch, you can use our Foca board to do it. Iboard can be powered by a mini USB , power Jack or POE.

Hardware

IBoard - Arduino with Ethernet and Wireless development platform

Software

Iboard is designed to be compatible with SD and Wiznet libraries from Arduino ide, and all demo code can be downloaded directly here.

With embedded bootloader, Iboard is easy to use by Arduino IDE through Foca series. ISP of Atmega328 is broken out for download firmware easily.

Note

The IBoard does not have a USB connection. So you need a USB/Serial adapter - we recommend the Foca FT232RL breakout board.

Good ethernet arduino compatible board with PoE Review by Antoine

The quality of this board is pretty good. This board is fully compatible with the arduino Ethernet library. I use the Foca board to upload sketches without any problem (as a Diecimila board in Arduino IDE).

Some details on the PoE functionality: It is not 802.3af compliant. The power is delivered on the 4-5 (+) and 7-8 (-) pairs (as 802.3af mode B). The input voltage range on these pairs is the same as for the external power supply : 6-24v and not 48v as requested for 802.3af. I use a passive PoE injector like this one https://linitx.com/product/16-port-passive-poe-injector-rackmount-panel-2555mm-dc-socket/13546 and a 6V power supply to inject power on 6 IBoards. What is with the nRF24L01+ socket SPI pins? Review by Gr0b

I like the board and is almost a perfect fit for one of my projects but one of the things I can't understands is why the nRF24L01+ pins (MOSI, MISO and SCK pins) are not connected to the hardware SPI of the Atmega328??

What this means is that you can only use the nRF24L01+ library linked to above and you loose 3 digital pins. To use any of the other libraries like I am forced to you need to either use a few jumper wires to the ISP connector (that is luckily not too far away).
I am going to have to make a daughter board to break out the hardware SPI pins for the nRF24L01 and give access to the 3 extra digital pins freed up in the process. (Posted on 6/14/13)
Great but some issues Review by Bret

The docs for this are not great. There is no diagram showing the pins on the board.

The only example sketch doesn't work with 1.0+ arduino software
Trying to figure out how the SD card is attached so you can use Arduino examples is nearly impossible, perhaps a hard core electronics person could figure it out from the Schematic but the average person cannot.

Also I have yet to get it to work with their Foca USB adapter, but have managed to program it using the adapter that came with my Lilypad, but the pins are different so it takes using jumper wires to connect it.

But I did have some success using the wiznet libs and have manged to make it work and it is a great value for the price (Posted on 4/12/13)
MY TWO CENTS Review by Helmus

This IBoard is a very nice way to connect an Arduino to the Internet. Unfortunately, it seems to be 3v3 IO only?

Is it safe to wire up Itead relay modules directly to the pins on the Iboard? It would be much easier if this did not require level shifters.

very nice arduino-compatible board with onboard ethernet controller Review by Andrey

The board is great! Works nice!

A few suggestions to new revisions:
1. Make it optional to switch operational voltage between 3.3v and 5v (via jumpers or via small switch)
2. Make an option to select nRF24L01+ pins (now they are hardcoded to D2,D3,D5,D6,D7,D8), probably also via jumpers. At least it will be great to connect it via SPI bus (MOSI, MISO and SCK pins)

I made some small minor changes to the maniacbug's RF24 and RF24Network libraries to support nRF24L01 on iBoard, you can see them here: https://github.com/andykarpov/iBoardRF24 and https://github.com/andykarpov/iBoardRF24Network

Usage examples will be available soon.

I use the IBoard as replacment for the Arduino Ethernet. It's much cheaper, check out my blog entry: http://neophob.com/2012/06/make-stripinvaders-cheaper-use-an-iboard/ (Posted on 6/10/12)
