Overview

Dual stepper motor driver shield can drive 2 stepper motors at the same time by Arduino. It can work with the power supply from 4.75V to 30V. High accuracy controlling can be supported by Arduino for CNC milling machine.

It uses the same stepper motor driver chip as EasyDriver, so you can use it as 2 EasyDriver modules on board. And there are all pins breakout as 3PIN electronic brick/ sensor brick interface.

This board works great in the full step mode. Unfortunately I found a problem with the current limit and micro stepping features. The current sense resistors on the card are the wrong value. Without a current sense resistor, you would not have the internal constant current control function. Since micro-stepping is based on controlling/stepping to different current levels, it would not properly micro-step. You may also possibly exceed the current rating of the driver depending on motor supply voltage and motor winding resistance. This could cause damage or failure to the driver. If you really need accurate micro-stepping be prepared to replace the 0 ohm sense resistors with 0.75 ohm or greater resistors. These are R3, R4, R7 and R8 on the shield. (Posted on 1/14/15)

After plugging it all in and giving the demo program a go with a couple stepper motors I can say everything looks good. I would suggest for a future revision you bring traces out so that the sleep function of the chips may be controlled to reduce chip temperature. I installed some heat sinks but they still get too hot to touch. I'll probably pull the pins out to terminals with a couple wires once I conduct more research into my project. (Posted on 3/26/13)
